HUNTLEY – It’s Our Little Secret, a new nonprofit organization in Huntley, is hosting two charity drives to benefit foster children. A back-to-school backpack drive will run through mid-August. The goal of the drive is to collect 200 filled backpacks for children in foster care.

The group will accept the following new items: backpacks, 1-inch three-ring binders, pocket folders, filler paper, large erasers and pencil-cap erasers, Crayola crayons, No. 2 pencils, pencil sharpeners and cases, scissors, rulers, markers, pens, watercolor paint sets, colored pencils, highlighters, calculators, protractors, compasses, index cards and any winter clothing.

The second drive will collect holiday toys, including new items for all ages, gift cards and any financial support.

It’s Our Little Secret plans to collect one toy for each child in the Illinois foster care system.

More than 16,000 children are enrolled, according to the most recent statistics from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

The toy drive ends Nov. 15.
